Thanks to his experience in the Community College Initiative Program, in one short year, Alvi has revolutionized the way farmers across Punjab, Pakistan are growing bitter gourd crops by using organic and low-cost measures that increase plant yields and fruit quality.

The prize acknowledges talented young chemists who live and work in scientifically lagging countries. Dr. Hojamberdiev’s research aims at growing inorganic crystals that are able to generate hydrogen from water molecules, once they are hit by solar light.

Each consecutive fair grew in popularity becoming “big tent” events with participants like Amnesty International, local robotics clubs, one computer per child and a local NGO that uses 3D printing to offer affordable prosthetic hands to amputees. The fourth and final of the season attracting well over 8,000 to the main square of farming hub Colonel Oviedo.

The conference focused on the themes of Online Radicalization and Community Outreach, topics inspired by a White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism with the mayors of various U.S. cities that IVLP participants attended during their exchange experience.
