Shaping Math Accessibility Resources for Teaching

Dominican Republic
Access to Education
The Dominican Government has taken several initiatives to improve the quality of the educational system; for example, since 2013, it was increased to 4% of GDP spending on pre-college education, there is also underway an Elementary Curriculum Reform with competencies approach, as well as the CompuMaestro 2.0 and the Extended School Day Program. Despite these actions, several studies have reported low competencies of Dominican students in the areas of reading, writing and math. This reality is even worse in the poorest regions of the Dominican Republic, which steadily (2010-2014) have shown the lowest Human Development Index of the country, especially in the dimension access to education (UNDP, 2014). In this sense, the aim of this project is to integrate a collective effort to promote an educational - social change in the way of teaching mathematics, fostering digital inclusion to improve access to education in those cited regions, whose average education index is 0.288.
