Evan Ryan Welcomes Mandela Washington Fellows to the International Exchange Alumni Community

video
YALI alumni—welcome to the International Exchange Alumni community; a vibrant global network of more than 1 million alumni of U.S. sponsored exchange programs.

I’m Evan Ryan, the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

President Obama launched the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders to help empower you—young people across Sub-Saharan Africa—with skills, resources, and networks.

The State Department exchange alumni network will be an incredible resource moving forward to do just that.

Your exchange experience does not end when you return home.

The alumni network offers opportunities and resources to help you build on your experience.

Through alumni.state.gov, you have access to academic journals, the global alumni directory, a database with $33 billion of funding opportunities, and grant competitions designed just for alumni.

The network will keep you connected with the State Department, with other Mandela Washington Fellows, and with likeminded alumni in your region and around the world.

As exchange alumni, you’re critical partners of the State Department.

We want to continue to strengthen our relationship with you through the U.S. embassy or consulate in your country.

Reach out to our colleagues at your local U.S. embassy or consulate to learn more about how you can network with alumni in your country and join your local alumni association.

This Fellowship has made us partners on behalf of a future we all want.

Thank you for your commitment to this important initiative.

I can’t wait to see what all of you do. Good luck!
