On behalf of Secretary of State John Kerry, I want to thank all of you for what you do each day to enrich our communities and strengthen our relationships. You took time away from family and loved ones to participate in a U.S. government-sponsored exchange program, and you continue to use that experience to build a better world.
2013 was an incredible year for exchange alumni. We launched a brand new interactive website designed to provide our alumni members with exclusive resources. The International Exchange Alumni website is now 130,000 members strong, and we gain new members daily.
Your exchange alumni peers include 43 current Heads of State, and 56 Nobel Laureates. More than 7,000 alumni competed in the 2013 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund, yielding hundreds of winning projects. Through Digital Dialogues, we collapsed the distance between you and other leaders like Anant Agarwal of edX and Peter Vesterbacka of Angry Birds.
The year ahead holds promise of even more vibrant alumni programming designed specifically to provide members like you with resources, recognition for your accomplishments, and access to other leaders.
We are pleased that your exchange experience helped better acquaint you with America. It is our sincere hope to build on that foundation by developing a deeper relationship with you as members of the International Exchange Alumni community.
Allow me to wish you peace, health, and joy in the New Year.
