Community safeguard of endangered species in Benin

Migratory species such as sea turtles and West African manatee are particularly endangered on the coast and wetlands in Benin and in the sub-region. The reasons are, among others, the level of poverty of the local population, insufficient of scientific data and specialized local skills, non-application of regulations, lack of formal partnership between coastal countries. Another challenges are the human predation and the climate change. It is therefore urgent to unite efforts with this project whose overall objective is to contribute to the sustainable conservation of the last populations of sea turtles and West African manatee, all important internationally migratory species attending the Atlantic coast of the region during the nesting season and the ecosystems on which they depend in Benin with the support of local communities in a regional dynamic.
