Resurvey of Tsunami Damaged Coral Reefs of West Sumatra

Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Minang Bahari Foundation (NGO in Sumatra) lack an adequate number of trained personnel to conduct specialized skills in coral reef monitoring and analysis necessary to resurvey coral reefs damaged in the west Sumatra tsunami. This project?s results will help create management strategies to protect these reefs. Together with Ofri Johan and his team at MMAF, I propose to conduct training opportunities in Coral Reef Research Methods and Analysis. The training will be conducted in small groups according to skills and needs participants. Training exercises will range from data entry to statistical analysis and will include report writing of the merged data file from previous coral reef surveys done just after the tsunami. The training program would emphasize practical field experience and analysis.
