Sri Lanka Youth Climate Summit

Sri Lanka
Climate Change and Environmental Protection
Our project will address the global crisis of climate change through the Sri Lanka Youth Climate Summit. Sri Lanka faces effects of climate change such sea level rise, extreme weather events and water scarcity. As a signatory to United Nation's COP 21 resolution, Sri Lanka is committed towards responsible climate action. Climate literacy, community participation and community leadership are decisive factors towards responsible climate action. However, only 36% of Sri Lankans are ‘strongly concerned’ while another 57% are ‘somewhat concerned’ about effects of climate change on themselves and their families. Lack of awareness is a key contributor towards inaction by the public. Climate literacy especially among younger generations is critical towards climate action. The project capitalizes on the tremendous power of youth as ideal change agents for influencing their peers, families, communities and governments for climate action and advocacy.
