English Teaching Internship Initiative (ETII)

Morocco
Access to Education
English M.A. students at Moroccan public universities intending to become English teachers currently find themselves in a precarious professional situation. Following recent government reforms that reduced the annual recruitment of new teachers, imposed a stricter recruitment process, and halved the monthly salaries of teacher-trainees, the professional outlook for these students has dimmed. Moreover, their career prospects are further challenged by their lack of practical teacher-training in their largely theory-intensive university curriculum. This project tackles English MA students’ employability constraint by offering them a community-service internship program that allows them to sharpen their English teaching skills and develop their leadership capacities, and provides them with an opportunity to teach under-privileged students with limited access to English language education, enhancing the latter students’ employment prospect in return.

As the world transitions to an era where technology reigns supreme, computer programming is increasingly considered a foundational field. In fact, computerization already touches just about everything in our lives, from the phones we use, to the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the way we socialize. Computer programming is undoubtedly part of the essential skill set of young individuals who aspire to thrive in the 21st century. Yet, in Morocco, virtually no school teaches it, and there aren't any coding camps available for students to familiarize themselves with this very basic skill before entering university. Our project aims to gradually fill this void.
