Do you care about supporting global engagement within rural communities in the United States, discussing the benefit of including rural communities in foreign policy, and brainstorming ways to increase outreach and recruitment for exchange programming? Alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs who want to make a difference in their communities on these issues are invited to apply for the "Rural Engagement in Global Affairs" Alumni Thematic International Exchange Seminar (Alumni TIES).

What is Alumni TIES?

Participants will have an opportunity to:

  • Clarify the purpose and urgency of prioritizing rural voices in international affairs at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Learn about ways to increase the visibility of U.S. rural businesses in international markets.
  • Share challenges and barriers experienced with rural engagement and discover connections between U.S. and international rural communities.
  • Discuss pathways to international exchange opportunities for rural Americans and first-generation college students.
  • Strategize creative ways to reengage community stakeholders, elected officials, technology companies, and educators in expanding cross-sectoral efforts to improve rural engagement in global affairs.
  • Apply for small grants that focus on innovative local or national initiatives to support rural Americans’ engagement and collaboration in global affairs.

Eligibility:

This seminar is open to U.S. citizen alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs or international alumni (currently living in the United States) from all career fields that have experience and/or demonstrated interest in working on issues related to rural engagement in global affairs.
