Congratulations to the winners of the 2022 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) grant competition! This year, out of 241 proposals submitted, 142 projects led by 482 ExchangeAlumni in 109 countries were awarded over $4 million in grant funding.

AEIF projects, led by alumni of U.S. government exchange programs and funded by the U.S. Department of State, increase regional and global collaboration between ExchangeAlumni, support U.S. foreign policy objectives, and benefit local communities. U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide worked with ExchangeAlumni to submit their proposals.

This year’s projects range from empowering students in vulnerable communities to equipping farmers with climate smart agricultural practices, creating pathways to employment for young mothers, and enhancing young people’s digital and financial literacy in financial technology (fintech) and its application, and much more. Africa

Benin

Benin Next Generation of Community Leaders (BNGCL) Fellowship will empower 40 high school students (20 girls and 20 boys) in vulnerable communities in Djougou (north of Benin) and Grand-Popo (south of Benin) throughout the academic year 2022-2023. The project will offer extracurricular training for these high school students on soft skills to improve their capacity in digital literacy, individual development planning, and public speaking as well as aim to increase their awareness on entrepreneurship by 50% by the end of the school year. This project aims to expand opportunity, reduce poverty, and implement effective and transparent development initiatives across the region. (Alumni Team: Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI))

Botswana

Model Parliament – Botswana aims to increase women’s participation in leadership by empowering 100 young women to develop and cultivate their interest and knowledge in governance and politics through a simulation of Botswana’s Parliament. The project seeks to address the low level of women in the National Assembly, local government, and at the cabinet level by taking women through various learning activities to model the Botswana parliament processes. This alumni-led project supports Botswana institutions, policies, and practices which respond to the needs and improve equitably the lives of its inhabitants. Burkina Faso

Promoting Peace and Social Cohesion in the Centre North Region of Burkina Faso promotes the coexistence of host communities and internally displaced persons (IDP) in the Center North region of Burkina Faso through cultural activities. The project will train 60 peace ambassadors to promote peace in their communities, 80 IDPs and host community members will be selected to take part in cultural events like dance, theater, and songs, and 10 journalists and 9 community leaders will participate in capacity building training for peace and social cohesion.  This alumni-led project supports advancing peace and security. Burundi

Improving Access to Health Services for Deaf People in Burundi Through Sign Language ("HealthSign") will conduct a one-year in-service sign language training for 120 health care workers in the six main hospitals in Burundi. The project will also incorporate sign language into the training manuals for nursing school and develop digital learning platforms to teach sign language to health care workers. The training will support the more than 600,000 people who are deaf/hearing impaired, who often find it difficult to access health services due to communication barriers. The alumni-led project invests in people with Burundian systems for health and education strengthened. Cameroon

Lead to Action: Increasing Women and Girls' Civic Engagement and Political Participation to Address Low Civic Participation Among Young Women in Cameroon will conduct a 3-day capacity building workshop with 30 young women, ages 18-35, across the five regions in Cameroon, which will aim to increase their interest in politics by bolstering their assertiveness and developing their social and leadership skills. Following the workshop, a manual will be developed to train community members and a social media campaign will be launched to address the structural and social-cultural challenges young women face. This project, led by Mandela Washington Fellows from the 2021 cohort, supports strengthening democracy and good governance. Cameroon

Preventing and Responding to Gender-Based Violence and Providing Psychosocial Support to Women and Girls in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon aims to tackle the widespread problem of gender-based violence (GBV) in Cameroon in the northwest and southwest by sensitizing women and girls on the instruments and mechanisms of protection of women's rights. This project will educate 200 women and girls on the legal and institutional frameworks on GBV prevention and response, create an awareness campaign in 5 school and communities on the importance of speaking out about GBV, educate 5 communities on the consequences of GBV on survivors and society at large, and finally implement a "He" for "She" campaign for behavior change in 5 schools and communities. Côte d'Ivoire

Youth for Peace aims to get young people to reject violence for non-violence and to be actors in strengthening social cohesion and peacebuilding through conflict prevention with participation in local and national early warning mechanisms.  The project will train 200 youth sensitizers and 140 young people in early warning/conflict prevention, organize four awareness sessions for the public on non-violence, civics, social cohesion and early warning, organize two awareness campaigns in schools and one campaign on social media, and finally organize 64 bi-monthly radio programs to raise awareness of non-violence, social cohesion and early warning.  This project run by the US Alumni Exchange Program of Cote d'Ivoire strengthens governance, enhancing stability, transparency, and responsiveness. Democratic Republic of Congo

The MUSIKA JI TUMIKIYE project is in response to unemployment caused by the long-standing conflict and security issues in eastern D.R. Congo. This project aims to train 180 female youth in general automotive mechanics as a means of establishing competitively marketable skills and financial independence. Led by Raphael Mambo, a 2017 MWF, the year-long training program will focus on oil changing techniques, car issue identification, and mechanical repairs in the big city of North Kivu province, Goma. Ethiopia

Advancing Peace and Security in Ethiopia through Young People’s Engagement (APS-TYPE): As a key Partner in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) is a project in response to the violent extremism in the Metical zone, Benishangul Gumuz , and Amhara regions, this project will empower 200 youth to use innovative and artistic methods, including song, theater, social media, and paintings, to promote peace and conflict resolution. The alumni project team in collaboration with local civil society organization, will enable women and youth to facilitate conflict management practices, mediation, and peaceful and safe decision-making practices when engaging with conflicting communities. Gambia

Combating Hate Speech Through Sensitization and Capacity Building will combat disinformation, misinformation, hate speech, and online bullying in order to promote peaceful coexistence among Gambians, especially during the post-election era. The project has three main goals, including: training 20 media personnel and 15 civil society organization (CSO) members in community engagement; engaging 210 community leaders, women, youth, religious leaders, and traditional communicators in intergenerational dialogue; and reaching 1,500 students with a one-week outreach program to counter the spread of hateful speech, foster partnerships with education institutions, and improve civic responsibilities. Ghana

Ensuring Sustainable Agriculture through Climate Smart Agro Practices aims at educating 100 smallholder farmers in Greater Accra (Ningo-Prampram) and Bono (Gyaman South) regions of Ghana on climate smart agricultural practices which are sustainable to the success, growth, and protection of the environment against climate change.  The farmers will be introduced to practices such as agroforestry, proper application of agro chemicals and their disposal, understanding and proper application of fertilizer such as micro dosing, and the use of viable seeds for higher production and protecting the climate.  This project supports sustained economic growth, trade, and investment. Ghana

STEM Boot Camp for Girls from Underserved Ghanaian Communities is aimed at inspiring girls from underserved communities in Ghana.  200 STEM teachers and 200 girls in junior high school will attend six seminars focused on professional development for STEM teachers, health talks and screening, STEM career counseling and mentorship, girls in robotics, girls in coding, and STEM competitions.  This alumni-led project promotes opportunity and development by investing in people. Kenya

DIGI-SwoRe aims to recruit and train 50 women-owned businesses from Mombasa and Kilifi, Kenya in digital skills on using social media platforms effectively, building a resilient and sustainable business, and practicing responsible waste management with a focus on plastic segregation and trading to reduce marine pollution along the coastline.  The goal is to increase the online presence and productivity of the women-owned businesses on social media and digital platforms leading to an overall increase in sales. Kenya

Impact of Climate Change on People with Albinism in Kenya seeks to increase knowledge and awareness of the impact of climate change on people with albinism, to improve parents and caregivers' skills in caring for children with albinism, and to work with people with albinism and their communities to increase tree coverage.  The project team will create an awareness campaign, disseminate information on social media, and train 100 parents of children with albinism and 20 healthcare workers on increased health risks for people with albinism because of climate change. Kenya

Strengthening the Role of Women in Climate Change Advocacy will work with 60 women group leaders in advocacy efforts to enhance uptake of clean domestic energy in rural Kenya and empower themselves and their communities economically using sustainable energy solutions such as briquettes.  The project team leaders will also lead a cascade training for 600 women group members on clean energy for domestic use. Liberia

Voter Information & Education Support will raise awareness on the voter registration process for eligible first-time and low-information voters. Using 60 town-hall meetings, forums, 18 radio talk shows and mass sensitization settings in marketplaces and school campuses, the Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) and International Visitor Leadership (IVLP) alumni project team will create an enabling environment for inclusive, credible, and informative voter registration processes. Liberia

The Entrepreneurs Academy will train 30 young aspiring entrepreneurs to create startups by March 2023, with the goal of reducing youth unemployment. Overall, the project aims to build and train a network of 100,000 young entrepreneurs by 2050. The 6-month long Entrepreneur Academy will utilize various educational modules including entrepreneurial-leadership, smart business development, finance and accounting, marketing and communication, and effective business presentation. Madagascar

Advocacy Leadership Institute (ALI) aims to train civil society organizations in five regions of Madagascar in leadership and shadow report elaboration, and 15 local authorities per intervention zone in transparency, accountability and response to community needs for a total of 200 people. The two target audiences will then be brought together through a dialogue to create an enabling environment for human rights and community empowerment. Malawi

Amayi Titukuke (AT) will equip 60 women from marginalized groups, including communities living with HIV, victims of gender-based violence, and child-led families, with capacity building and vocational skills.  Using entrepreneurial-focused trainings, participants will become self-reliant and financially independent. (Alumni Team: Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (MWF) and Fulbright Foreign Student Program) 

Mauritania

Strengthening the Capacities of Young People in Disadvantaged Neighborhoods of Nouakchott project aims to train 200 youth aged 15-25 in leadership, conflict resolution, local government processes, and entrepreneurship. In addition, the project team will conduct a needs assessment to evaluate skills gaps and will connect the youth participants with mentors and internship opportunities in the specific fields identified from the assessment. Mozambique

Abraco de Mana will train 100 girls from Mogovolas, Morrupula, Ribáuè, Mecubúre, and Muecate districts in Mozambique in the production, use, marketing, and sale of re-usable artisan sanitary towels. The two-week workshops will have 5 modules: 1) What is menstrual hygiene and how do you maintain healthy habits?; 2) Building molds for reusable sanitary towels; 3) Producing reusable sanitary towels; 4) Price calculation; 5) How to sell the product. Mozambique

VONINGA is a project, led by YALI alumni, to bring together 140 public high school students and former students using an online mentorship portal. The project team aims to address vocational information barriers in 4 districts of Maputo Province by connecting former students working in fields of interest with current high schoolers. The project team will also conduct guidance workshops for the students led by consultant specialists in vocational training and soft skills development. There will also be an information session for 50 English language teachers about exchange and career development opportunities available under funding from US agencies. Namibia

Empowering Him to Protect Her will hold 2-day workshops with grade 11 boys on issues of gender-based violence (GBV), teenage pregnancy, rape relationships and fatherhood. The program will be conducted in five schools in five regions benefiting 5,000 learners. Following the workshops, the alumni team will facilitate the establishment of “Empower Him to Protect Her" clubs to serve as a platform where school learners engage and discuss GBV and teenage pregnancy. Nigeria

Advancing Equality in the Electoral Process in Osun State Through Increased Women and Youth’s Political Participation will utilize an awareness and advocacy program through social media and call-in radio programs to advance gender equality in the Osun State 2022 Gubernatorial Election through increased women and youth’s political participation.  The goal of this project is to increase the awareness of at least 500,000 voters in Osun State on the importance of women and youth’s political participation, increase the awareness of at least 100,000 women and youth in Osun State on how to participate in the political process, and to advocate for a 50% increase in women and youths' participation in the political process. Nigeria

Climate Education: Building Youths’ Response to Climate Change will hold two-day workshops to provide 600 youth in the southwestern states of Nigeria with the knowledge needed to make sustainable decisions around climate change. The project team will also produce a documentary of the two-day workshops to showcase their progress. (Alumni Team: International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)) 

Nigeria

Promoting Deaf Girls and Deaf Women’s Participation in the Political Process aims to help 1,000 deaf women acquire permanent voter cards (PVCs), sensitize 150 deaf women, and train 4 data entry officers. The project will be carried out in the remote areas of Bwari and Kuje, as well as the municipal areas of Abuja, to help promote deaf girls’ and women’s participation in ongoing political processes, assist with voter registration and voter turnout, and support balanced election media coverage. Rwanda

Rwanda U.S. Alumni Engagement: Reconnecting Alumni through Strengthening a New Alumni Association aims to bring all US-exchange alumni in Rwanda together to use knowledge, skills and networks obtained from different programs to implement social-economic projects that address challenges that are pertinent to Rwanda's development by enhancing their entrepreneurial leadership that will result in a positive change. The project team will train 150 high school girls in STEM, equip 200 university student leaders from 10 universities with practical leadership and entrepreneurship skills, and equip 30 new elected local government officials with inclusive approaches to people living with disabilities. Sierra Leone

Creating Pathways to Employment for Young Mothers will provide 60 teenage mothers in the Jui, Kossoh Town, Hastings, and Grafton communities with foundational skills, vocational training, and entrepreneurship skills to create a pathway for employment. The trainings will cover basic literacy, numeracy, and financial management skills that will improve the young women's proficiencies and competencies to acquire and retain employment. Following the training, young women will be placed in vocational institutions and paired with mentors. South Africa

SAUSAC Strategic Offsite and Annual General Meeting will bring together five association leaders from different exchange programs and recently added alumni association members for a strategic leadership development training. The project will boost alumni engagement efforts across exchange programs and cohort years and strengthen the organizational structure of the Alumni Association. (Alumni Team: Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (MWF), Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center, TechWomen, International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), and Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES)) 

South Africa

The Civil Rights Movement Educational Tour will connect South African teachers and learners with U.S. Civil Rights activists and historians to promote reflection on both the U.S. Civil Rights movement as well as the South African Apartheid system and South African activism. Additionally the transatlantic discussion will promote shared solutions to the complex legacies of discriminatory practices. The project will connect 30 teachers and 1500 students from approximately 20 low-income Eastern Cape schools with civil rights activists and historians whom the alumni met through their respective exchange programs at Howard University. Howard University is a leading HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) founded in 1867 and known for a deep connection among the civil rights community. South Sudan

Theater for Peace will use street theater and radio drama productions to foster discussions and debates about peace, reconciliation, and governance issues. The project will engage a total number of 45 actors/actresses and 3 theater practitioners as facilitators and directors. It will also engage the state Ministry of Education, and other local organizations. The work extends to the existing drama group’s activities enabling the alumni team to efficiently support citizen awareness and engagement in peaceful transformation of leadership, peace, and reconciliation processes. South Sudan

I Want to Know How to Choose the Right Leader aims to educate, empower, and enlighten people of Lakes State on issues related to elections, through community dialogue, training, and radio live shows. The team will be sharing information about democracy and the importance of participating in the upcoming elections. Following this project, the beneficiaries will learn about the importance of this democratic process and how to participate effectively. (Alumni Team: YALI RLC)

Tanzania

Tabia Njema Kids Animation Project is named after the Swahili phrase “tabia njema” meaning good behavior. The project will use animated short videos to teach children about ethics and integrity with the long-term goals of impacting future civil society members' views on corruption, promoting democratic governance, and improving the health and education of youth. Tanzania

Enhancing Tanzanian Human-Wildlife Coexistence aims to address the fundamental drivers of human-elephant conflict (HEC) through facilitation of community-led livelihood projects along the reserve boundary where high interaction occurs between people and elephants. Through the trainings and the creation and dissemination of informational booklets, project team leaders will promote sustainable practices and promote broad-based economic growth amongst Tanzanians. Togo

Helping Hand Rehabilitation seeks to contribute to the rehabilitation of 50 prisoners who were released due to the Helping Hand pro bono project conducted with funding from a previous Alumni Affairs grant in 2020. The Global Alumni Association of Togo (GAAT) will reach out to the 50 released prisoners for rehabilitation purposes by training them in their chosen field, incubating them, and placing them for their rehabilitation in society. The project team will also organize workshops for prison administrators, human rights organizations, legal practitioners, and other experts. Uganda

Sheema Interfaith Project aims to initiate dialogue among religious and opinion leaders in the Sheema district about religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in response to the political, religious and ethnic fissures caused by the 2021 Ugandan general elections. The project goals include promoting effective governance and building more accountable and inclusive institutions to ensure Uganda remains a reliable partner in promoting regional security. Zambia

Not Too Young to Decide is a follow-on to the 2021 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) project, “Alumni Engagement in the Electoral Process – Promoting Democracy and Peaceful Elections in Zambia.” Not Too Young to Decide will facilitate trainings for 3000 students from three schools in civic engagement, participatory budgeting, and consensus building. Goals of the project include strengthening Zambian democracy and improving Zambia's enabling governance environment. Zambia

Stop the Chop Campaign will raise awareness of deforestation, degradation, and the unsustainable illegal timber trade in the Mafinga district of Zambia. The project goal is to raise awareness about sustainable environmental management by engaging traditional leaders, community members, and other stakeholders. Zambia

Zambia Rural Youth Governance and Civic Education Project seeks to engage rural youth in three provinces with trainings focused on governance and civic engagement. The goal of the project is promoting more inclusive, participatory, and representative governance. (Alumni Team: Global Connections and Exchange Program)

Brunei

SEAds Living Labs (South East Asia Seeds Living Labs) is a synergized venture between Kilang ReRoot (KRR) Brunei and The Green Dots Vietnam that aims to steer creation of intercommunity urban gardens in ASEAN member states. This project hopes to improve local community quality of life by raising awareness of healthy living practices, creating more green spaces, and eliminating food waste and food loss through a circular economy approach. The alumni-led SEAds Living Labs aims to develop urban development and architectural landscapes which cultivate social, economic and environmental benefits to ultimately help mitigate climate change in urban areas. Project activities include 'The Balkony Project,' which will pilot in Brunei-Muara, Brunei Darussalam, and 'A Circular Community Garden' in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. China

Audio Description for the Blind and for a More Accessible Shanghai aims to raise awareness of media accessibility in Shanghai and other regions in China, and to advance innovative approaches to audio access services. In cooperation with local project partners, the project will improve the city's accessibility and benefit more visually-impaired people in China. The project aims to engage 1,100 direct beneficiaries and 20,000 indirect beneficiaries through public talks, seminars, and workshops as well as to produce a range of training materials and publish academic articles. China

Documenting Progress of Civil Society in China will examine the impact of the Global Fund upon the development of Chinese civil society organizations (CSO) in the public health sector, specifically those focused upon HIV/AIDS counseling and support. Through a series of video interviews with CSO leaders, the factors which contributed to this development will be examined and cataloged in a documentary which will be shared with local community leaders and screened at the Shenyang American Center.  (Alumni Team: IVLP, Humphrey, and PFP)

Fiji

Promoting Clean Energy Cookstoves and Healthy Cooking Practices Among Key Community Leaders in the Fijian Archipelago will utilize a series of community workshops to advance support for community leaders and key influencers to promote non-communicable disease (NCD) interventions in Fiji, including promotion of the benefits of traditional food preparation and wood burning efficient stoves. As NCDs are the leading cause of death in Fiji, this project directly promotes the U.S. government and Fijian goals to foster more healthy, educated, and resilient populations. Indonesia

Improving Access of Universal Design for Learning in Higher Institutions for Students with Disabilities aims to increase the capacity of lecturers to effectively teach and instruct those with special needs in Indonesia. The alumni team will provide training workshops for lecturers in higher institutions on Universal Design of Learning (UDL) to improve their ability to effectively teach students with disabilities, thus improving their potential educational outcomes. Indonesia and Malaysia

Projek Pandai Media (PPM) (English: Media Literate Project) is an alumni-led media literacy education program aiming to educate the youth about their rights and responsibilities as media consumers, as well as introducing ways to better access, assess and use information and media. The project will consist of three stages including development of a board game and a Media and Information Literacy (MIL) module, training teachers in the target cities in Malaysia and Indonesia to use these resources to conduct MIL programs with their students, and a small grants competition in which teachers will submit a media literacy project involving their local school and community. Indonesia

Disability Empowerment for Professional Equality (DOPE) will increase the employment rate for people with disabilities through an intensive training program in social media and online skills to provide participants hands-on experience working in the digital economy.  The project will also provide select participants with an internship and assistance finding follow-on employment.  The project team will work collaboratively with private sector partners throughout the project to prepare partners to meet the needs of their new employees and create an inclusive workplace. Indonesia

Deradicalize Our Class! will develop a de-radicalization teaching module to integrate into Indonesia's senior high school curriculum.  University experts, local teachers, and education administrators will collaborate to craft curricula to assist students in identifying and preventing violent extremist ideas in their community as well as address intolerance and radicalization among youth in Makassar, South Sulawesi, a region with a history of ethnic and religious tension.  The project team will disseminate the de-radicalization teaching modules to several related stakeholders, including to the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BIN), Ministry of Education and Culture, the Education Offices in South Sulawesi province, and related universities. Japan

The Global Reporting Education Program (GREP) will provide an online course and field study opportunity for university-level journalism students in Japan, with a focus on students from the historically underserved island Okinawa. Participants will have the opportunity to visit several Japan-based U.S. military bases (e.g., Kadena Air Base, Camp Schwab, Camp Hansen, MCAS Futenma) and put their learned skills into practice by interviewing U.S. military officers and service members and gaining a better understanding of the service members’ work. The participants will also visit Fukushima to learn about Japan's nuclear energy policy in both national and global contexts and study how such policy has impacted the marginalized populations in Fukushima. Through the project, aspiring Japanese journalists will gain an increased understanding about the continued significance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance, and acquire insight into nuclear energy policy, an emerging issue for sustainable societies in both countries. ASEAN Teachers’ Bootcamp “Building Resilience Through Media and Information Literacy” and Launch of MIL for ASEAN Network (MIL4ASEAN) Website and Online Support Group will train teachers and teacher educators in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand about the importance of media and information literacy to building a well-informed and resilient society in a fast-moving, digital media landscape. Through seminars, webinars, and workshops the MIL for ASEAN Network (MIL4ASEAN) Website and Online Support Group will promote media and information literacy (MIL) as a critical thinking skill among school teachers, teacher educators, trainers and advocates in ASEAN. Malaysia

Malaysia-Thailand Vetiver Bioremediation will provide an interactive outdoor classroom and hands-on learning opportunities to train young Malaysian and Thai youth on the fundamentals of soil assessment and land rehabilitation (restoration) on the affected sites through the use of Vetiver bioremediation as a part of a feasible climate mitigation strategies in Malaysia and Thailand. By applying Vetiver bioremediation to the affected areas in Malaysia and Thailand the alumni-led team aims to promote soil regeneration and minimize the impacts of climate change, while making the land usable for purposes such as agricultural, farming and recreational activities. Papua New Guinea

The 3-Country Leadership Seminar will convene a three-country (Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu) virtual alumni seminar designed to strengthen the leadership of the three alumni associations for greater engagement between their association members and their local communities. The seminar will be hosted by the Vanuatu-USA Alumni Association and focus on leadership and strategic planning, including best practices for promoting alumni engagement throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Exchanges Empower: 75th Anniversary of US-PH Exchanges will allow the U.S. Embassy Manila alumni to work in coordination with a team of exchange alumni to commemorate a number of significant U.S. government-sponsored exchange program anniversaries in 2023, including the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Philippine people-to-people ties, the 75th anniversary of Fulbright Program, 20th anniversary of Youth Exchange Study (YES) and Philippine Youth Leadership Program (PYLP), 15th year of Global Undergraduate Exchange Program, and 10th year of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). The Embassy’s Public Affairs Section (PAS) will work with the alumni network to organize a year-long series of alumni and public engagement programs across the country to demonstrate the importance of exchanges in bringing our two countries closer together, advancing shared bilateral strategic goals, and promoting mutually beneficial economic prosperity. Empowering Local Leaders to Integrate Climate Action in Community Planning will harness the experience of a range of diverse U.S. exchange alumni to advance a more resilient Indo-Pacific region by helping tackle the climate crisis in Timor-Leste, a small island developing state that is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The project will build understanding and support among local policymakers for integrating climate adaptation and resilience measures into local infrastructure development projects in the Aileu municipality of Timor-Leste. It will also train and empower emerging voices to become advocates for climate adaptation and resilience in their communities to drive systemic change. Through its effective engagement of a range of local partners, the project will also lay the groundwork to better incorporate climate decision-making in health, transportation, agricultural and other local projects that will undoubtedly face the stresses of climate change, whether through extended droughts, flooding, landslides, and extreme storms. Green Schools Green Citizens will work with approximately 50 primary and secondary schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city to build students’ awareness, green actions, and shared responsibilities to address emerging issues of local environmental pollution and climate change in major metropolitan areas. The project will build a climate-and environment-literate generation while also promoting green schools through integrating action-oriented environmental education and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) into school systems and youth environmental volunteerism. Confronting Misinformation in Bangladesh will engage with journalists and social media influencers to enhance their fact-checking ability to effectively counter misinformation during election cycles. This initiative will mobilize civil society actors and voters to hold public institutions accountable in preventing irregularities such as ballot stuffing and raising awareness of voter harassment and intimidation ahead of the next general election. This project supports Bangladesh's commitment to democracy, transparency, tolerance and good governance and supports Bangladesh's effort to hold free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections. A for Access: English Learning, Global Network Building, and Empowerment for the LGBTQIA+ Community in Bangladesh will increase engagement with LGBTQIA+-led organizations and community members to encourage entrepreneurship by providing access to leadership training and advanced English language courses.  Participants will also be encouraged to cultivate connections with like-minded peers as they seek to create their own businesses to improve the quality of their livelihoods. e-Nupikeithel will empower women artisans from various tribes of the northeast Indian state of Manipur who practice one of the eight ethnic dying crafts, to preserve their dying crafts and heritage and sustain their livelihood by educating them on digital and e-commerce literacy.  The project leaders will lead trainings and workshops on expanding businesses to increase the market reach beyond the local market, creating opportunities for product expansion, linkages, partnerships, and ensuring the revival of and adoption of dying crafts by future generations using digital technology.  This project promotes technological innovation and entrepreneurship for inclusive economic growth and development in India. Co-Creating Community Resilience to Climate Change-Aggravated High-Tide Flooding in Coastal Kerala calls for an understanding of climate change through the lens of social vulnerability and the broader political-ecological-gender relationships that shape resilience.  The project aims to put in place a community-based rapid-action disaster-preparedness system to face periodic waterlogging of homes, farmlands, and workplaces caused by high tides in coastal Kerala, India.  Participants will create a community-sourced tidal flood map for forecasting high-risk events, a local information network for sharing the warnings, a green volunteer corps of schoolchildren and young adults, and an innovative community media campaign. Rainbow Circles for LGBTQI+ inclusion on College Campuses will engage college students via "Rainbow Circles” that feature DEI-themed workshops and leadership training on select college campuses. Through a top-down (with college administration) and bottom-up approach (with students), the project will raise awareness, audit school infrastructure and policies, establish safe spaces for discussion and dialogue, and strengthen redress mechanisms leading to a safe campus culture. Kazakhstan

Executive Training for Next-Generation Leadership at Kazakhstan’s Universities will build capacity for 30 Kazakhstani university executives as they internationalize and partner with foreign universities, including from the United States. The alumni will introduce and share U.S. best practices to increase institutional competitiveness, faculty-to-faculty direct connections, and sustainable partnerships with American colleges and universities through other funding opportunities. Floor Writers for Dalit Human Rights aims to organize expert-facilitated, mentor-led, and community-supported writing training for 100 grassroots social activists to write about Dalit Human Right (DHR) issues.  Participants will publish personal narratives and op-eds on DHR issues to challenge public officials to change their perception and to investigate how policies can protect DHR.  The engagement of editors and writers as mentors will provide an avenue for public officials to listen and interact with Dalits and widen perspectives that will contribute toward reinforcing democratic practices. Promoting Women’s Participation in the Energy Sector (Stree-Shakti) seeks to provide business and leadership skills trainings and networking opportunities to young female students who have limited understanding and access to information on available opportunities, governing policies, and work culture in the energy sector.  Workshops will focus on topics related to the Nepalese energy sector, climate change, human rights protections, and the promotion of gender equality and diversity in the workplace.  The goal is to develop the first cohort of female professionals who specialize in multiple aspects of energy related work in Nepal. Communicating to Pakistan: Enhancing Digital Media Frontiers seeks to train a cadre of journalists in the use of digital media for advocacy and knowledge-based information dissemination. Women Leaders Development for Peacebuilding aims to empower female Madaris (religious seminaries), teachers, and social and political activists of all sects and faiths to collectively address issues of intolerance, prejudice, and extremism. By countering misinformation and extremist messaging, the project will support themes of peacemaking and conflict resolution while building social cohesion among the Madaris and communities in the Peshawar district. Women-led Enterprises Lead Economic Development (WE-LED) is a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis that has had a negative impact on the livelihoods of those living in semi-urban and rural communities. Women, particularly in the most vulnerable households, have been disproportionately burdened due to their now unemployed male counterparts at home. Women-led small scale enterprises have sprung up but lack the support and relevant soft skills to build a profitable business. This alumni-led project will support and train 80 women-led small-scale enterprises in building sustainable businesses and fostering economic prosperity in semi-urban and rural communities in Sri Lanka. iCode is a seasonal technology accelerator for youth that will include a promotional campaign and a three-month intensive hybrid learning program in informational technology (IT) and human capital design. After completing the training and bootcamp, participants will be placed in internships with local organizations with the goals of strengthening economic prosperity, promoting innovation, and fostering entrepreneurship. Uzbekistan

Climate-Smart Agriculture in the Aral Sea Region: Food Security Under Soil Salinity and Climate Change will educate agricultural specialists in 15 remote districts of Karakalpakstan, the region most affected by the Aral Sea disaster, on climate-smart agriculture using up-to-date knowledge and innovative tools. The target community will be educators from universities and institutes, researchers, consultants, farm leaders, Ag-enterprises, environmental groups, government personnel, and NGOs. The training programs will focus on climate-smart crop production which contributes to food security by addressing different aspects of adaptation and mitigation actions, including crop diversification and agricultural system transformation in Uzbekistan. The Algerian Media Literacy Collective will bring together 45 young online content creators from different regions in Algeria to learn about media literacy, countering mis/disinformation, combating hate speech, and creating online content. The project team will facilitate mentorship opportunities for participants by high profile online content creators. This project is expanding to multiple regions in the country and focusing on creating a collective/network of amateur content creators. The project includes the creation of a website, where the collective shares activities, and provides online courses addressing media literacy. The El-Mefash podcast series, or "to release one’s anger," will host 33 women as guests to tell their stories as single mothers, refugees and female breadwinners. The exchange alumni podcast team will travel around Egypt to interview women about their experience with male figures and the restrictions that gender-roles have played in their lives. Too Young to Marry will hold trainings and awareness raising seminars on the topic of the dangers of child marriage. The trainings will be given to civil society organizations, religious leaders, marriage officials, parents, community leaders including teachers, school directors, partisan leaders, and mothers with daughters in the age range targeted for early marriages. The project will also hold a day with girls aged 12-17 years to raise awareness of the dangers of early marriages. This project increases respect for human rights, religious freedom, and social  diversity results in a more secure and empowered citizenry.

Iraq

TechSazi: Supporting and Empowering Tech Students in Public Universities builds creative spaces for students, including women, incorporating modern pedagogy and student creativity. IVLP Alumni Network in Iraq connects Iraqi IVLP alumni and creates an active network in Iraq. Israel

The Jerusalema Program for Public Leadership aims to increase the representation of different groups in the local public sector in Jerusalem. Participants from underrepresented groups will receive the needed tools and skills to acquire a job in the public sector, including language and leadership skills. In addition, as estranged and conflicted groups in a tense city, participants will learn to take advantage of Jerusalem's diversity for the common good and tear down barriers promoting peace and shared society. Israel

Women’s Artists Business Empowerment in Jerusalem will facilitate business development trainings for 40 female artists in Jerusalem. The artists include Arab-Israeli, Israeli and Palestinian residents of Jerusalem.  The trainings will be followed by 120 workshop hours where the participants will share their artistic medium with a diverse audience in three different languages (Arabic, Hebrew, and English). Jordan

Mentally Healthy Generations aims to promote mental health, fight stigma, and support youth (18-30 year olds) to live a mentally healthy lifestyle by focusing on social and emotional intelligence, self-care, coping and stress relief skills by conducting 11 Mental Health Camps and providing peer support and coaching sessions, community activities and training sessions over the period of 12 months. This project will also introduce the youth beneficiaries to mental health tools (stress box, games, guides and journals) to help them live mentally healthy lives. Palestinian Territories

Inclusive Governance to Broaden the Political and Civil Participation Space to Include More Women and Youth in Palestinian Territories aims to encourage 750 women and youth to be involved in local politics and civil life in Gaza through seminars run by local civil society organizations and American contacts of the alumni running this project. In Gaza, there have been no general elections since 2006. This project aims to educate youth on the basic principles of good governance, inclusive government, rule of law, democracy, and human rights. Tunisia

Back to Growth Incubation Program will provide 10 exchange alumni with six months of entrepreneurial capacity building workshops, including mentorship opportunities and advisory services to support the creation of social start-ups for the alumni's local communities. The participants will build their digital start-ups to address challenges faced by their communities and explore innovative solutions during the workshop. Youth Lead the Change will empower Albanian Youth to engage in activities of self-development in their communities, in particular in remote and underserved regions. A lack of self-development opportunities profoundly affects youth living in rural and remote regions, such as in Malësi e Madhe, a region located in the northernmost part of Albania. Youth depopulation in this region negatively affects the services by reducing the range of social activities. This project will address the challenge of youth-flight by creating an environment for youth in Malësi e Madhe to have an impactful role to contribute to and build sustainable communities, and act as a model of youth activism in other regions of Albania. Strengthening Mathematical Movement will strengthen the mathematical movement in Armenia through the formation of extracurricular Math clubs in 12 schools in 3 regions of Armenia. As a result, it is planned to develop innovative teaching methodologies and alternative teaching materials, expand the competencies of math teachers, improve students' performance in math, increase the appeal of mathematics, and activate the mathematical movement. Inclusive Children’s Books uses literature and storytelling as a tool to disseminate values and concepts of inclusion. Literature provides an impactful and effective way to illustrate diverse stories of people with disabilities. The alumni team will write and publish two inclusive books about people with autism spectrum disorder, Infantile Cerebral Palsy, hearing and/or visual impairments in Armenian language with age-appropriate illustrations. Using Project-Based Learning to Prepare the Youth for Future Careers will support rural youth in underrepresented areas to develop the skills to find rewarding jobs in various sectors in local and international job markets. With the help of mentors students will develop small-scale project proposals to solve social and ecological challenges in their communities. By using project-based learning, participants will gain soft skills such as leadership, team building, communication, collaboration, negotiation, English language, computer and programming, and advocacy skills to take on leadership roles in their communities. Bulgaria

Support for the Integration of Ukrainian Refugees in Bulgaria will support the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the job market and broader Bulgarian society by providing Bulgarian language courses and certification to Ukrainian refugees, and by designing seminars tailored to the needs of the Ukrainian refugees covering information on historical and institutional context, market dynamics, career and entrepreneurship strategies in Bulgaria. Academy for Ukrainian Female Entrepreneurs will offer an opportunity to female Ukrainian refugees to acquire new knowledge and skills and establish connections to support their entry into the Bulgarian business environment. The program combines theory-based lectures as well as interaction with local entrepreneurs to shorten the gap between the Ukrainian trainees and the business resources in the town of Burgas. Croatia

Brundibár – Children’s Opera will raise public awareness of the importance of preserving Holocaust remembrance on the local and national level. This project will address the lack of education about the local involvement in the Holocaust in the Croatian school curriculum and encourage cooperation between public and private educational institutions and civic cultural organizations to address this issue. In addition to the opera performance planned for Croatian elementary and high school students, government members, city and state officials, and media, the project will involve an extensive educational campaign with a strong message of remembrance and tolerance targeting school educators and students throughout the country. Estonia

Impact Day 2022 - the largest impact and sustainability festival in the Baltics - will bring together various actors such as entrepreneurs, governmental agencies, and academia to create new connections, learn about sector development, and exchange ideas. BEST Fulbright Media Literacy Program is a collaboration between the Amerikazentrum Hamburg, the Fulbright Alumni Association, the Friends and Sponsors of the German-American Fulbright Program e.V., and the U.S. Consulate General Hamburg to counter the rise of disinformation in Germany.  Through a three-part workshop, Fulbright Alumni will improve their media literacy skills and explore strategies on how to counter disinformation through social media and communication. Greece

Solidarity to Ukrainian Children through English Language provided English language training to 50 displaced Ukrainian children ages 8-14 years who attended a 15-day summer camp (August 23 - September 6) in the region of Central Greece. Students improved their English skills through recreational activities such as theatrical play and other creative activities like sports and music, while fostering acceptance and integration. Special emphasis was given to empowering the children having experienced the trauma of war in Ukraine. The Ambassador's participation at the closing ceremony was highlighted on social media reaching a total of 17,000 people and gathering a total of 2,300 engagements including likes, retweets and comments. Greece

Open Democracy In a Solidarity Society (O.D.I.SO.S): As a result of the war in Ukraine, more than 25,000 displaced Ukrainians have sought protection in Greece. The O.D.I.SO.S project will use a participatory, community-based approach to train civil society professionals to build their capacity in support of displaced people. The O.D.I.SO.S project will also feature a photo exhibition in Athens and Thessaloniki showcasing the recent work of Doctors of the World-Greece at the border area of Siret, Romania, and Ukraine, aiming to raise awareness about Ukrainian refugees and about the war still raging in their country. Hungary

WECAN - WomEn Change Agent Network - Leadership and Inclusive Governance Training for Female Local Leaders brings together female municipal and community leaders from small Hungarian cities as part of a training and mentoring program on participative leadership and inclusive governance. Besides strengthening leadership skills and enhancing knowledge on citizen inclusion, participants will focus on a “Change Project” addressing a local issue that needs to be tackled with increased participation. Bringing theory to practice, implementing an individual project, will empower women to become change agents themselves and advocate for increased citizen participation. Furthermore, the first ever network of female leaders on a municipal level will help grow participants' regional networks by connecting women in similar positions and help them to fully utilize the power and influence of their positions. Ireland

NEW GROWTH ENGLISH will provide high-level English instruction and certification to Ukrainian refugees arriving in Ireland, with the subsequent prospect of advancing their employment opportunities. The project will address the gap in course offerings available to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) outside the private school environment and will provide access to free ESOL classes to Ukrainian refugees. The gained English language certification will be internationally recognized and include lessons which address the students’ emotional and employment needs to help them integrate into Irish society. Latvia

ENGtegration for Ukraine: When the Russian war in Ukraine started, Latvia set aside funds and assistance for 10,000 refugees. Between February and October 2022, Latvia has welcomed over 39,000 Ukrainian refugees. At about 20.5 refugees per 1,000 residents in Latvia, welcoming and assisting the refugees is a major undertaking. Many Ukrainians have flocked to Latvia because of they have family and friends in the country. The goal of "ENGtegration for Ukraine" is to improve the human capital (employability and integration) of Ukrainian refugees into the Latvian and European community by improving their English language skills and knowledge of local culture, traditions, and history.(Alumni Team: Fulbright, SUSI)

Peoples’ Bridge Between the U.S. and Latvia will focus on the Latvian diaspora's investment in culture, education, and science and showcase its contribution to Latvia’s independence and rapid democratization.  The project will include video presentations and lectures throughout Latvia about prominent Latvian-Americans that will provide opportunities to highlight the contributions of Latvian-Americans and the U.S. Government to the democratization process.  As a result of the project, Latvian students will learn about exchange opportunities, Latvian-American mentorship, and patronage programs that invest in the younger generation of scholars and future leaders of Latvia. Career and Motherhood: Towards the Empowering Balance will develop evidence-based training materials on gender equality in the workplace, and provide online webinars for women on maternity leave and large employers to implement gender equality and inclusion measures. The project is designed to mentor and empower women on maternity leave to demand equal treatment upon their return to the labor market, and to increase employers' awareness on gender equality and inclusivity in the workplace, specifically focusing on returning mothers. Supporting Teachers and School Staff to Advance the Inclusion of Ukrainian Refugees will support the integration of 50,000 war refugees from Ukraine who have been registered in Lithuania. This alumni-led project will provide a series of training sessions for 90 teachers, specialists and staff from 3 Lithuanian schools that host Ukrainian refugees. The trainings will focus on development of teachers’ psychosocial, intercultural, and media literacy competencies needed for a successful integration of Ukrainian learners into a national education system. ADSE Residency Program and Incubator will bring together young Ukrainians with a creative mindset interested in tackling socially important issues in the Ukrainian context. Throughout 6 months, selected participants will take part in a residency program consisting of three weekend-long design sprints, interspersed with a public program of lectures and networking opportunities to create prototypes of social innovations and entrepreneurial initiatives in fields requiring interdisciplinary, creative approaches such as sustainable reconstruction of cities, space science and environmental protection, and remembrance and future thinking. ARTS 4 People & Earth will implement four training schools connecting cultural and artistic fields (visual arts, performance, film, and poetry and literature) and scientific areas (geography, geology, environment, climatology, biology, forestry, pedology, sociology, anthropology, education) in order to promote awareness and behavior changes about nature, the environment and protection issues. The project will cooperate with various local organizations and universities and will increase collaboration among alumni, local communities, and organizations addressing mutual goals and challenges to develop awareness and interventions for sustainability and protection. Elie Wiesel Art and Essay Contest: Praise the Ethics based on an annual theme inspired by the works of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel, young Romanians will have the opportunity to submit works of arts and essays addressing challenging ethical issues of contemporary society. Free creative writing workshops will be offered throughout various locations in Romania. It seeks to create a youth-led association that will organize in-person and online events, including university debates, allowing the youth to collectively reflect on questions of peace, war, and conflict resolution. Turcopreneurs – Turkey Early Adopters Entrepreneurship Community will establish an online networking hub for the early adopter’s entrepreneurship community in Turkey focusing on financial technology (fintech), blockchain, Metaverse, green technology and climate change. The project goal is to connect Turkish impact entrepreneurs to collaborate on impact enterprise start-up ideas and further develop entrepreneurship skills through mentorship and stakeholder pitch training. Fostering Media Literacy and Information Hygiene will target vulnerable Ukrainian audiences, enhance media literacy skills, and increase the resilience of Ukrainians to disinformation, misinformation, and malign narratives spread via social and traditional media in Ukraine during ongoing hybrid warfare with Russia. The free online training through a massive open online course (MOOC) format will also be made available through video, radio, and other traditional media outlets and platforms to guarantee a wide reach. Building a Global Coalition of Black Physicists and Engineers seeks to bring together opinion leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union to develop evidence-based strategies to support physicists from historically marginalized groups, and especially empower young and early-career Black physicists in the UK by connecting them with distinguished African American physicists. UK educators will train participants on how to cultivate a more diverse student population and build collaborations for African American physicists to study abroad in the UK. Women Chef Entrepreneurs Program aims to build emotional resilience and financial stability for 100 single mothers in vulnerable situations with the goal of helping half of the participants establish new businesses in the field of gastronomy.  Women chefs over 18 will participate in a 18-month self-empowerment program that will expose them to tips for improving self-esteem and violence prevention, hone classic and avant-garde gastronomy techniques, and learn proper use of digital communication tools and social media. Human Rights for Diverse Populations: Building a Strong Quilombola Community (Descendants of Fugitive Slaves) in Sussuarana, Piaui state will empower and raise awareness of human rights for traditional people of Quilombola communities to better access resources and ensure rights granted to them through an official federal order in 2007 that led to the establishment of the Quilombola Social Agenda, Brazil Quilombola Program. USG alumni will engage with local community leaders to help the population understand laws that protect them, raise their awareness of the importance of deepening knowledge of their cultural roots to preserve their Quilombola identity, and increase their capacity to advocate for human rights. Regional Chapters will be considered for a funding competition, eBook, podcast, and a documentary series that will celebrate the cultural identity of the regions of Brazil and build the narrative capacity of the alumni to foster partnerships and support for their initiatives. Technovation Montréal: Empowering Girls to be Leaders and Problem Solvers in Their Communities will help close the gender gap in the tech industry by providing STEM skills for 250 girls from disadvantaged communities in Quebec and help them cultivate an interest in STEM careers. Through the program, participants will learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology. Participants will pitch their innovations for business, educators, and tech industry stakeholders, join a nationwide competition with other Technovation chapters in Canada and discover the world of science and technology during several science and tech events such as Eureka Festival, a three-day fair where scientists, tech entrepreneurs, educators, and organizations showcase their latest tech innovations. Looking Back and Looking Forward: 200 Years of Chile-U.S. Partnership will celebrate the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Chile and the United States in 2023, a major whole-of-mission effort, with emerging voices and established opinion leader audiences. This joint project brings together the two U.S. exchange alumni organizations for the first time, to organize up to six events in different regions throughout the country that spotlight exchange alumni impact and show what Chile and the U.S. have achievedachieve by working together. Alumni will present and debate in public panels, seminars, and discussions on priority themes, including: (1) addressing climate change; (2) social and economic inclusion; (3) democracy and decentralization; and (4) entrepreneurship and innovation. A multimedia communications campaign in social and traditional media will expand the reach of individual events and form a key component of the bicentennial celebration. Colombia

Scientist as Non-State Diplomats in the Colombia-US Relationship: Promoting Traditional and Scientific Knowledge Exchange in Rural and Indigenous Communities with Clubes de Ciencia Colombia Bicentennial Edition seeks to implement eight Science Clubs in four vulnerable regions of Colombia located in the four cardinal points of the country (Cauca, Amazonas, Santander, and La Guajira) for 160-200 students (20-25 per club). The clubs serve as a platform for young students to experience the world of research: conception of ideas, design and execution of experiments, and communication of results. Participants from indigenous and underserved communities will be exposed to an intensive, project-oriented, one-week workshops (camps), focused on developing technical and cognitive abilities in a wide array of research areas in STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) applying tailored approaches to their context like ethno-education, mobile phones, and native dialects. ASOUSA Chair on Enhancing Prosperity, Participation and Environmental Actions from a Human Rights Perspective – Colombia celebrates the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Colombia and the United States. Implemented by the U.S. exchange alumni association in Colombia, the project will include events in nine different cities that spotlight exchange alumni impact and show what Colombia and the United States have achieved by working together. Alumni will present and debate in public panels, seminars, and discussions on priority themes, including: (1) addressing climate change; (2) social and economic inclusion; (3) democracy and human rights; and (4) civic participation. The activities will engage 4500 participants from six universities in Colombia, nine Binational Centers, and civil society organizations. The involvement of younger audiences, Indigenous Peoples and racialized minorities will help create an inclusive framework for the initiative. Click-Up: Costa Rica and Uruguay United in Sustainable Tourism and Innovation seeks to implement a regional collaboration on entrepreneurship development and climate change to make both countries more competitive in green tourism best practices and advance their rural development. In Costa Rica, entrepreneurs from rural communities will receive training to help strengthen their business models through product and services diversification, and in Uruguay, the alumni will develop and implement a best practice manual on sustainable tourism. Dominican Republic

Innovation and STEAM High School Bootcamp (FROM AEIF 2021) will create a STEAM curriculum for the Ministry of Education to introduce to the Dominican Republic Public schools, especially in rural provinces where resources and exposure to STEAM training programs is most limited. Teachers and students will engage in hands-on activities that incorporate real world practical applications of STEAM concepts such as design thinking, robotics, and physical and digital prototyping techniques and tools that will help them solve more effectively and empower them to develop solutions to environmental challenges in their communities. Promoting Safe and Inclusive Working Environments in Newsrooms seeks to promote a non-violent and non-discriminatory work culture in Ecuadorian newsrooms. Journalists and a human rights advocate will work together to create a protocol to prevent violence against women and LGBTQI persons in newsrooms and a guide on what to do if a case occurs. Additionally, they will share the protocol with different newsrooms throughout the country and implement a digital campaign on gender equality and violence against women and LGBTQI persons to raise awareness of these issues. Ecorganica will train 37 women shopkeepers to transform organic waste into high grade fertilizer through a circular economy strategy.  The women will sell the high-grade fertilizer through a commercial network of local farmers.  A team of business consultants and legal advisors will coach the women to develop business plans and establish a cooperative. Guatemala

Strengthening the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Central America is a one-year initiative to leverage the expertise of YLAI alumni in two programs focused on addressing two main challenges entrepreneurs face in the earliest years of their business: mental burnout and lack of financial education. Each program seeks to have an impact on two specific audiences: 1) early-stage women entrepreneurs and 2) established entrepreneurs, “gig economy” workers, and heads of household who need specific financial skills to grow their businesses. Both programs will utilize online educational platforms which make available videos for asynchronous learning. Guyana

Project Inclusion: Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by Influencing Educational Transformation targets a critical gap in the education system by training teachers to identify specific learning disabilities and equip them with knowledge and tools to foster inclusion and ensure equal access when responding to needs of students with learning disabilities. Activities will focus on a social media campaign to educate the wider population on inclusion and learning disabilities and workshops for pre-service and in-service trainee teachers at the Cyril Potter College of Education (Teachers Training College) and teachers from schools within Regions one and six. Include Us! seeks to enhance the effectiveness of fifteen Disabled People's Organizations in Guyana by helping them design and implement inclusive programs that increase services for persons with disabilities and promote their full and active participation in the community. The activities will shift attention to what has worked locally by emphasizing the access that DPOs have with the disability community, raising awareness of innovative grassroots initiatives that show inclusive development, highlighting the capacity of persons with disabilities, and encouraging a more proactive and organized civil society. This initiative will also promote cost-effective and sustainable interventions that are easy to reproduce (i.e. local materials, low cost, local human resources). Compartiendo Cultura en tu Barrio (Sharing culture in your neighborhood) seeks to combat increasing violence against women, LGBT+, and neurodivergent populations in Michoacán, Mexico. Next Level program alumni will capitalize on the youth’s love for hip-hop to create an inclusive space. They will conduct campaigns, conferences, and hip-hop workshops in schools, centers for people with disabilities, and community recreation centers to raise awareness about the importance of individual and collective peaceful participation in society. Mexico

LEADERSHIP CAMP APP: THE CHALLENGE OF YOUR LIFE entails the development of a gaming app to strengthen decision making skills of at risk youth. Via the simulation of life scenarios and choices, the app raises awareness about issues that lead to migration, crime, and drug-trafficking with the goal of curbing teen delinquency and collecting data to improve school educational programs. The program also includes a 3-day bootcamp where teens will compete for scholarships and prizes, and engage in activities that build on the goals of the app. Data collected via the app will be presented at a press conference to highlight challenges faced by Mexican youth and make policy recommendations. Panama

Opening Opportunities to Rural Communities Through English & STEM Tutoring seeks to close the education gap for 10th and 11th grade students in Panama’s public schools' system to prepare them for the job market, university-level education, and international scholarship opportunities while increasing awareness on issues related to inclusion, diversity, gender, and the digital divide. Students from suburban and rural communities will receive tutoring tailored to their natural way of learning (visual, kinesthetic, oral, interpersonal, emotional) to enhance academic performance. An ICT skills bootcamp will provide hands-on experience for students to develop STEM skills. Through conversation workshops with native speakers from Panama’s American expat community, the students will improve their English language skills. Paraguay

Emerging Digital Women Entrepreneurs Training Program aims to strengthen the digital capabilities of emerging women entrepreneurs to boost their digital businesses and achieve a multiplier effect. Participants will include 20 indigenous women entrepreneurs and graduates of the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), who will participate in a professional workshop on digital and marketing tools. At the conclusion of the project, participants will become members of a resources and networking database of 100 women-owned businesses that are transitioning to an online business model. Ready to Lead! Peru will support women in Peru to achieve leadership positions in public policy decision making fields by providing training in soft skills, practical tools, and access to professional networks. Sembrando Ciencia (Sowing Science) seeks to provide free virtual and in-person workshops on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education to 120 teachers of all subjects from the Peruvian regions of Huancavelica, Junín, Huánuco, and Cusco. Through the trainings, teachers will enhance their technological skills, learn about hybrid teaching methods that incorporate virtual learning, master concepts of problem solving and critical thinking, explore gaming and robotics, and develop more STEAM-focused curricula that promote interdisciplinary and inclusive projects and strengthen soft skills for more than 36,000 students in the region. The six-month project will include a media campaign on the importance of disseminating correct information and the repercussions of sharing false information. Additionally, an online course will be created to introduce media literacy skills to over 1000 secondary participants, aged 17-35. (Alumni Team: Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI)) 

Venezuela

STEAM Learning Lab: Building a Stronger Future is a cross-sector makerspace designed to bridge the gap between underrepresented teenage girls and science, technology, engineering, arts, and biotechnology innovations. The project will provide teenage girls, aged 13-17, of underrepresented communities from three different states in Venezuela hands-on learning in robotics, programming, technology, biology, and their applications for scientific purposes. STEAM Learning Lab aims to educate young girls to become scientifically literate environmental citizens with solid leadership skills and a conscious sense of responsibility for a brighter future. Venezuela

Triple Impact Entrepreneurial Leadership aims to promote the foundation of a community of triple-impact social entrepreneurial leaders who generate innovative and sustainable solutions to the most relevant social problems in the regions and communities most affected by the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. Triple Impact members will expand the organization’s reach by implementing a campaign to motivate entrepreneurs to organize, form clubs, and propose innovative business solutions to social problems. Participants will include a meeting of 50 entrepreneurs who will build prototypes that address a variety of challenges facing communities across the country. These prototypes will also become a business opportunity with coaching from a team of established entrepreneurs and businesses who will support the development and financing of the best prototype innovations.
