On April 26, 2013, British Olympic Rowing Gold Medalist Katherine Grainger helped celebrate the launch of the Scottish chapter of the John Adams Society (JAS), the UK’s IVLP alumni association, at the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Members of JAS and other IVLP alumni learned about the highs and lows of Ms. Grainger’s journey to gold: Graeme Herbert, Deputy Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Scotland’s representative on the John Adams Society Board used the presentation as an example for the new chapter. “When you hear firsthand about the commitment, effort, and sacrifices needed to achieve greatness. ... I hope that [this] was the first of many other successful John Adams Society events in Scotland in the years to come.” The Society now hopes to expand its alumni membership in Scotland. The new chapter aims to further bring the United Kingdom and the United States closer by promoting and supporting cultural, scientific, educational, social, and economic activities.
