Multi-media Dialogue Against Gender-Based Violence (AEIF 2012)

Instead of simply teaching students about gender violence and civil rights issues, this project will give young men and women the chance to imprint their views through a multi-media interactive project. A road show aimed at encouraging the youth to speak out will be created, using media created with Namibian role models promoting civil rights and denouncing gender violence. This project aims to create safe spaces and solicit feedback from youth from many different cultures within Namibia. As a part of the interactive roadshow, students will interview each other using loaned portable and inexpensive video cameras, gathering their reactions, feedback, and experiences about the material and dialogue. By using technology not currently widespread in Namibia and engaging youth at all stages, this project innovatively tackles critical issues and dialogs and allows young people to openly and safely discuss them.

CINTA Indonesia: Interfaith Youth Dialogue (AEIF 2012)

This project will teach participants basic conflict resolution skills, and how to promote dialogue and non-violent action as effective means to solve conflict. In addition, the project will increase tolerance, mutual understanding and collaboration among Indonesian youth and will demonstrate the importance of eliminating religious intolerance by learning from religious leaders what each respective religious tradition says about working together despite individual differences.

Mentoring Nicaragua?s Social Entrepreneurs (AEIF 2012)

The proposed project will provide low income high school students from Nicaragua the opportunity to gain training, skills, resources and access to social networks that will allow them to develop their vocation, democratic values, social entrepreneurial spirit and leadership potential. The alumni aspire to create a mentorship program in Nicaragua for high school social entrepreneurs, something that currently does not exist in Nicaragua. The proposed program will use a combination of trainings and one-on-one mentorship to document of the youth participants? experiences through photography, video, social networks and a web-site.

Project CAPAZ, Developing a Culture of Peace in the Classroom (AEIF 2012)

Project CAPAZ will foster a culture of peace in the classrooms of 10 public secondary schools from Colombia, El Salvador and Nicaragua by training 1,200 secondary students. The CAPAZ methodology gives students techniques to change inappropriate behavior into appropriate behavior in the classroom. Project CAPAZ will have two phases. The first phase consists of creating the social media network from July to August 2012 for students, mentors and teachers from different schools and countries to keep connected and exchange ideas. From August to November, about 720 students from the Colombian cities of Pereira, Armenia and Manizales will be trained in the CAPAZ modules. In December, the team will evaluate the training in these schools. The second phase takes place from January to April 2013, when the remaining students from Bucaramanga, Colombia and El Salvador and Nicaragua will be trained.

Using Social Media to Increase Public and Political Activity of Azerbaijani Youth (AEIF 2012)

Through a number of workshops and summer camps, this project will increase the public and civic engagement of young people in Azerbaijan, specifically by focusing on how to embrace the opportunities presented by the Internet and social media networks. The workshops and camps will provide youth with basic knowledge of democracy and human rights, as well as in the fields of journalism, new social media networks, and blogging.
