Communicating Public Health

Creating familiarity among journalists and public health advocates can assure more effective media coverage of public health priorities, including vaccine confidence, and other aspects of disease prevention. My world-wide experience as a journalist and public health official as well as experience in these very workshops qualify me to partner with governments, multi-lateral organizations, academics, faith-based institutions, and the business community to strengthen media-public health relationships to mutual benefit of all involved disciplines. While Eastern Africa is specifically cited here, I have experience in conducting this work around the world.

Smart RR Scale-Up

Expiration: February 28, 2021

To deploy the Smart RR mobile technology in various regions across Nigeria, thereby improving access to quality service provision and reportage of sex-based violence cases.

About Smart RR
Smart Reporting and Referral (SMART RR) is a technology-based mobile application that allows survivors, social workers, and service providers to report and refer cases/incidents of GBV from their smart and basic phones. The tool was developed by the Big Family 360 Foundation, a national non-governmental organization in Nigeria. Smart RR application is a technology-based mobile application that enables survivors, social workers and service providers to report and refer GBV incidents to relevant service providers and authorities, conducts service mapping, automatically updates referral directory, collects and analyses referral data.

This idea was built on the existing referral mechanism of the GBV Sub Sector which is done manually. The application was therefore designed to mitigate existing challenges such as under-reporting and associated difficulties with accessing services.

The pilot rollout and deployment of Smart RR in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States are with the technical guidance of UNFPA and the GBV Sub Sector with support from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF). A test run has been conducted within a group of GBV specialists in Borno and Adamawa States under the guidance of the GBV Strategic Advisory Group to ensure the application does not compromise survivor-centered approaches to GBV service provision.
