Mandela Washington Fellow: Investing in the Environment

video
I'm Clive Jifunte, I am from Zambia. I am a Mandela Washington Fellow.
I work for the Zambia Wildlife Authority, as a wildlife ecologist.
Whilst we are trying to conserve wild animals, we also need to look at conserving the habitats
which are the forests, because forests give us lots of ecosystem services.
Nature brings forth our livelihoods, it also defines our heritage as humans.
As part of my Mandela Washington Fellowship, at my university in Miami I had
of doing environmental management. After my institute now, I move to D.C. as an intern.
When I get back home, all the skills I have gained here as a fellow, I think I would be able to
put these skills to good use in trying to improve policy implementation.
The program was recently renamed by President Obama, and it became the Mandela Washington Fellowship.
The new name actually, you know, motivates me it inspires me a lot, gives me much energy now, to work as a young African leader.
The fellowship will have a big impact, it simply gives me the courage to stand up as a young African leader.
