Assessing Large class size using quizizz and zipgrade
Expiration: September 30, 2018Education is the constitutional right of every child in most countries. As children access education, classrooms are overcrowded with students. Large class size is one of the problems in the educational sector that developing nations have been grappling with. Ghana as a developing nation is no exception and has its own fair share of this problem at the pre-tertiary and tertiary levels of education. In Ghana, with the introduction of free senior high school policy student’s enrollment has increased drastically. The average number of student number of students in a classroom is 80 who are taught by a single teacher. Teachers find it difficult to fully engaged and monitor students during school hours. The situation becomes worse during assessment especially multiple-choice test items where students are expected to answer fifty multiple choice questions.
Teachers spend more days to score the test which delays test feedback and in some cases teachers refused to score the test due to the tedious nature of the work. In this 21st century children are inclined towards technology and the old and primitive ways of assessing students should be abolished. Students may copy assignments and exercises wrongly while others may free reluctant to submit their assignment/exercises for grading. The issue of large class size and assessment has negative effect on teachers and sometimes students. Having deliberated so this issue for a long time, technology can play positive role on reducing the stress and anxiety of teaching in assessing large class sizes. The workshop will be organized for 100 junior high school teachers made up of 67 males and 33 females in the Nkoranza south municipality of Brong Ahafo region in Ghana. Participants will be taught two awesome applications called Quizizz and Zipgrade that will be of significant help in assessing their large class sizes.

Start Something Big:
To satisfy others is not an easy task for we have different thoughts and concepts in this wide world which looks like a small village. But doing what the public like is an essential principle to satisfy others.
Challenge:
Identifying the materials of work that would be given to the participants(teenagers) through the project is really a challenge for us. Different ideology between the lecturers and the participants (teenagers) raise complexity to carry out this kind of project. That is because of political, security ,social and economic issues by which the participants suffer from.
How to convince others that your idea and opinion is the best? Do you have proofs that you are right? The pupils(participants) are teenagers, they don’t accept any idea easily!
My Essential Idea:
The main idea of the project is to meet the participants’ needs in ideology and education. I focus on ideology education and for they occupy an important area in Iraq especially in Mosul. Most of pupils (participants) and students are suffering ideologically and educationally . In other words, they are psychologically suffering.
This kind of pupils especially the primary students , the intermediate students , and the preparatory students need a special care.
They (the pupils) were treated badly for more than three years through Daash period. They left schools because Daash obliged them to learn a lot of violent and race concepts in schools. Daash wanted them to use their capacities to kill others. In addition, the Mosulian pupils left schools for financial and security reasons.
The main problem is the low educational students and think that education is something trivial. (we want to change that)
The solution is to find the participants better educational and ideological environment in the class in our workshop. We have to create them better future .
The Goals:
The main goal is to improve the students’ levels in Arabic and English (basics). Most of them have passed to advanced levels without real. And even they didn’t have any test and take classes. This is really a disaster.
As teachers, we see that 90% of pupils and students have low educational level. Improving their educational capacities requires much effort . But this is our job we have to do it , we have to help others to build our city.
Our team consists of :
A leader : Lateef Ahmed (Fulbright Scholar Alumni)
Assistant: Salih Abid Alrahman (Fulbright Scholar Alumni) ,
Laith (NGO /Mosul)
Four Lecturers:
Mahmoud Mohammed (The Arabic Language)
Mohammed Ali( The English Language )
Rayan Fadhil (Office coordinator)
Project Activities
Two places for the present workshop, east and west Mosul.
The participants are primary-six students from two east and west Mosul.
The total number of pupils is 160 . pupils number
for each class 20 for 10 days.
Those pupils who are going to be selected , have low marks in Arabic and English after checking their marks in schools.
We will teach them the basic of Arabic and English ABCs for most of students who don’t know spelling and how read and write in both languages. I focus on these two languages because of the weak education in Iraq. Also because of the gab that happened between the pupils and teachers in Daash period.
In addition , we try to change some bad concepts that have been influenced by Daash , and ideology. And clarifying that peace always creates progress and prosperity, better life , and war creates destruction and death . This through the lectures indirectly in 25% of lectures .
Giving the participants some presents after finishing the course make them feel that people have to work and study to get useful things. ( no rose without a thorn).
What is going on in each lesson?
General view:
-Teaching the participants) how they read, write, speak, and listen to both languages (the four skills).
-Listening (to the basic conversations )
-Speaking ( practice to what they listen)
-Reading ( giving them how to read and spell )
-Writing ( basics of writing , let them write and practice)
-Let them watching clips on basic Arabic and English
-Let them read and read by themselves

-Give them 10 lessons for Arabic and 10 for English.
-Each class one hour Time limit for each lesson is one hour and half.
- There is lunchtime for 30 minutes.
-After finishing the workshop , we have them a graduation party. For two hours , we give them participation certificates.
Detailed view:
-There are two places in Mosul city in which the project would be carried out : Eastern Mosul and Western Mosul
- in each place four workshops would be taken
-ten days for each workshop
-in each day, two lesson are taken : Arabic and English
-in each lesson , time limited 1:30.
Moral lessons in the course
Through the workshop, the instructors would give the pupils moral lessons about (war and peace) and how these simple words change the world. Why do they study at schools or at home? What is success ? How do they build the country and the city.
