Communities for Peace
Expiration: December 30, 2019In South Sudan, the September 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement is a benchmark to restore the hopes of the people as they return from the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and refugee settlements in the neighboring Uganda and DR Congo. Meaning, the social losses attributed to violence, especially call for renovation that focus on understanding the mutual interface of peace and development that is equal. Instead for youth to focus on tribal, ethnic, religious, political issues, VAD South Sudan will use the grant to advocate for developmental issues by mitigating conflict that may arise. Vocational Training for women survivors of human trafficking and internally displaced women in Cameroon
Expiration: February 28, 2019This project will be a vocational training program, basically fashion designing ( dressmaking, shoes, hand bags and other women accessories using African Fabrics), and also Cameroonian traditional dress, fondly called Atogho. We will do most of our trainings practically by hired designers trainers and also by watching online tutorials. The girls will be trained on how to make women accessories such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, handbags, shoes, portraits and dresses using African fabrics. We will train 80 women in two groups, of 40 women each. The women will be train in groups of 40 for the first 5 months and then go for internship for 2 months. While they are on internship, the next batch of 40 women will start their own 5 months training and will also go on internship for 2 month. Their internships will be in designing houses around the City of Kumba. At the end of the trainings, 10 out of the 80 women will be given a machine a manual sewing machine each through a raffle draw. Then for the continuation of the center, 4-8 women will be employed at the center and even more depending on our market. The remaining 60 women, some will join the 10 empowered women to start up their own petit designing shop and the rest we will look for jobs in the designing shops that they went for internship.
In 2020 we will continue with he trainings of the women, 10 ladies in 6 months as we will be self funded from money made from our center by sewing dresses for people or our accessories. And also we will be looking for contract from schools to sew their school uniform and this will be the source of sustainability of the Center. We will also look for fundings to train and empower more girls so that more women become empowered and they will not fall victims to human traffickers.
We will seasonally give the women training at the center talks on why we are empowering them and also talks on human trafficking, sexual and reproductive health rights, and business trainings and community developments workshops.
