IMPROVING NURSE-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP
Expiration: August 17, 2022Although health care delivery is a team work where each personnel is equally important in his own field , yet , nurses and midwives are considered the backbone of each health institution because they render direct services to patients and clients . Nurses spend more time with patients than any other health care personnel , as such , a very good relationship has to be developed between the nurses and patients/clients in order to ensure effective delivery of care .
General Hospital Daura is a government owned secondary health institution located in Daura local government area of Katsina State , Nigeria . It consists of more than 100 nurses and midwives who run different shifts in different departments and units .
I am professionally a registered nurse ; therefore , I understand all that's happening between nurses and their clients/patients . The relationship we have in General Hospital Daura with patients is quite encouraging , but because of work overload and misunderstanding , cases arise where the relationship deteriorates , thus , affecting the quality of care .
This program is aimed at improving the relationship between nurses and their clients/patients , so that , the quality of care is enhanced . The program will be held within 2 weeks , within which all the nurses and midwives in the hospital will be given lectures by Psychologists . The lectures will centralize mainly on the attitudes of people in different circumstances giving emphasis on the sick and ill because human beings portray completely different attitude when they are sick . Although , all nurses and midwives undergo training in Psychology and Behavioral Science in schools , this program will further develop them as it is going to be led by group of experts . The nurses and midwives will be divided by the number of days (14 days ) , depending on roster flexibility .
The funding for the program will be used for sponsoring the presenters for 2 weeks . Five presenters will be invited , viz :
1. 2 Psychologists
2. Director Nursing Services I/C of the hospital
3. 2 Scholars ( Muslim/Christian ) , whose contribution will be mainly on educating and enlightening the nurses and midwives on the significance of creating good relationship with their clients and patients , and the benefits hereafter of caring and serving humanity .
The funding will also be used in feeding the participants during each session for the whole 2 weeks . Part of the funding will be used in providing shirts and P-Caps with the name of the program sponsors on them , and for provision of certificates of participation to the participants .
Lastly , the program is decided to be held in 2 weeks because nurses and midwives can't be available at once as they run shifts , therefore , a date and time will be given to each depending on their duty rosters .

Costech seeks to link science students, experts via project
Expiration: August 7, 2021Dar es Salaam. Science students in eight secondary schools of Dar es Salaam Region and five in Arusha Region are expected to benefit from a programmed aimed at enhancing their understanding what they learn in class.
The three-year phase two project, dubbed ‘Future Stem Business Leaders’ (FSBL) was launched yesterday in Dar es Salaam. The objective is to help students translate what they learn in theory in the classroom into practical knowledge.
During the launch, the chief guest was Dr Amos Nungu, the director general of the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (Costech).
Dr Nungu said the project, which will support technological revolution in the country, had come at the right time in the country, as the government was pushing its economic industrialization agenda.
There are many opportunities available in technology, particularly those that help to simplify work and improve performance in various areas as the social and economic life. Hence banking on technology is the right thing to do. We need to invest massively in this area,” said Dr Nungu.
Programme manager Josephine Sepeku said the project would help science students and their teachers to learn how to turn their acquired knowledge into opportunities including finding solutions to various issues.
LET'S FIND OUT ABOUT EDUCATION AND DEMOCRACY IN EAST AFRICAN STATE MEMBERS
Expiration: August 22, 2021The Livestock for Livelihoods project at Manyara Ranch received TZS 86.7 million worth of equipment from the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of a two-year, $1.1 million grant to improve income generation, provide training for community-based natural resource management, add value for livestock, and develop infrastructure.
The equipment handed over by USAID Tanzania Mission Director Pamela White included a new Massey Ferguson tractor with trailer, a heavy duty baler baling hay to fatten cattle, and a disc plow and harrow.
The central aim of the Livestock for Livelihoods Project and related programs supported by the American people, in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), is to help eradicate poverty among the Maasai and other pastoralist communities while simultaneously protecting landscapes, livestock and wildlife. Three thousand households are benefiting from the project by upgrading their cattle breed and market linkages. The project includes a feedlot, abattoir and cold chain for storage, transport and marketing. Through the feedlot, cattle gain 50–100kg above the conventional weight, generating an additional $200-$300 per head of cattle.
A great deal has been accomplished since the year 2000 when nine villages surrounding the ranch began receiving assistance from the American people. Support for conservation in Manyara Ranch has resulted in improved water sources, purchase of vehicles and equipment, and support for game scouts to ensure security of wildlife. In addition, the Manyara Ranch Primary school was relocated away from a key wildlife migration corridor (Kwa kuchinja) connecting Tarangire and Manyara national parks, greatly contributing to their sustainability.
Wildlife has come back to the ranch for the first time in many years with an abundance of game, including giraffe, elephants, ostrich, and zebras. These animals are attracting tourists with money to spend. Communities in the Burunge Wildlife Management Area, just south of the ranch, are to receive $60,000 per year as part of a leasing agreement with two new eco-lodges. The Manyara Ranch itself is negotiating an $800,000 deal to establish a high-end tourist lodge on the premises.
Livestock for Livelihoods is part of USAID’s broader support in the Tarangire-Lake Manyara ecosystem with related livelihood improvement efforts including the Mshikamano Women’s Group in Mwada. U.S. Ambassador Mark Green inaugurated the Mwada Mshikamano Women’s Group Weaving Enterprises during his visit to the Babati District in Arusha on March 20, 2008. The group has received training for business skills, product development and design, marketing, and quality control. The Mshikamano Women’s Group is now earning income from baskets and has built a new business center that serves as an office, store, and a meeting point to conduct business and continue training and capacity building. The women’s business center also benefits non-members who are given access to sell their products for their own benefit at no charge.
The Mshikamano Women’s Group joins the established Esilalei Maasai Women’s Cultural Boma in demonstrating the impact of USAID Tanzania’s investment in women-focused micro-enterprise development. Together, these women’s groups have realized $12,000 in sales in just three months. With increased sales, livestock improvements, healthier, eco-systems and wildlife, and more tourists coming every year, the future for people in these communities is looking better every day.
