COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE USE OF VIDEO GAMES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM IN PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND HIGHER EDUCATION IN URUGUAY, USING A PROSPECTIVE APPROACH.

The present research, based in the School of Humanities and Education of the University of Montevideo, focuses on video games as cultural and educational tools in the three levels of primary, middle and higher education. It is a comparative and prospective study that incorporates the future in order to better acknowledge the present possibilities. The main problem is that multimedia learning systems based on games and educational video games in particular tend to be more like video-games than educational tools or vice versa, which leaves either students or teachers dissatisfied with their use.

MAYEIN Mobile Library, Technology, and Civic Resource Initiative in Alaka Community

As part of its mission to bridge existing gaps in literacy, leadership, technology and civic knowledge amongst Nigerian teenagers and early youths, especially those of low income, Mayein operates mobile library services in the underserved Alaka Community of Ibadan, Oyo State. The Project offers books, literacy materials and other mobile library services, provides practical demonstration and training on how to use technology and relevant tools for learning ? e.g. Google, Micro-soft, Encarta etc, to children and teenagers who lack access and also demonstrates practical volunteerism, community action as well as participatory civic skills to children and teenagers in Alaka community, Oyo State,Nigeria.

From mutations to modules: Exact algorithms for computational cancer genomics

This project is carried out as part of Gunnar Klau's nine month sabbatical as Fulbright Visiting Professor in the Computer Science Department of Brown University in Providence, USA. It is a collaboration with Prof. Ben Raphael and his group. Prof. Klau develops algorithms to analyze combinatorial patterns in massive cancer genomics data such as produced by international consortia such as TCGA or ICGC. The aim is to discover individual cancer-driving events to better understand and classify different types of cancers.

TechWoman Inspires Young Girls in Tunisia

Upon her return to Tunisia after the TechWomen exchange program, Amel Ghouila paid the experience forward by mentoring young girls in the international Technovation competition and continues to promote STEM education in her community.
