Embrace Project Philippines

Geographically, the Philippines is prone to earthquakes and super typhoons -- these are two (2) major factors that causes landslides [aside from urbanization] that our local communities are not prepared for. It seems that mountain nets and braces are not part of the preventive measures of the national government as we often hear more about warnings and the landslide disaster news rather than programs for prevention. With the rapid advancement of climate change, and the Philippines having a firsthand experience of its impact, I feel we must act quickly for preventive measures before another disaster strikes. Building mountain nets and/or braces will not just prevent landslides but may also preserve the local heritage, local culture, local industry, jobs, lives including memories. A rigid and standard appearance of mountain braces and nets may feel ominous or imposing, hence as a public-artist I envision installing mountain nets/braces that complement the natural landscape and that can be a source of sustainable energy. Embrace Project Philippines is a land art - mountain nets/brace project made of concrete, stone and solar/wind energy generation system that can power public school, hospital, and local government offices.
