. Understanding that the youth are the trustees of our nation Nigeria, it is therefore in our collective efforts to help shape the mind of these Young to realize their role in Nation building and that giving in to social vices such as drug abuse will be a deviation from norm. The Drug Abuse Epidemic in Nigeria: it is worrisome that drug abuse in Nigeria has taken a different tone and dimensions where not just hard drugs are abused but prescription drugs are being abused that is the ones certified safe for human consumption are also being abuse daily by the kids of the generation which make the present situation extremely worrisome and very dangerous, hence if this trend is not addressed, the explosion of the nation is only a matter of time. Presently, over 14million youths are addicted to drugs and Nigeria is ranked as the third highest marijuana smoking country in the world with 14.3% which has led to the high rate of crime, insecurity as well as unemployment, a tale of deep rot. Based on research, about 6 out of 10 youths within the age bracket of 8 – 30 years are addicted to drugs. Further findings have also shown that 80% of the insane individuals in the society are between age 18-38years this makes the situation of drugs intake alarming. More to this, in secondary schools In Nigeria, results have shown that 1 in 5 students smoke marijuana. Now the question before us is how long are we going to fold our arms and watch the lives of young people destroyed because of ignorance and poor dissemination of information? This is the reason Silec Initiatives is organizing the Lagos 2020 International Stakeholders Conference In tackling drug addiction and the opioid crisis in Nigeria as a tool to nip in the bud.

Because of the time i spent abroad , and my personal experience of the western system of education .
