Mandela Day 2017

Description

I walk among the great.
I am here today because a man like Mandela had the guts to put his foot down for what he believed, and was willing to be brutalized for his convictions.
All the way from Phoenix Arizona, USA on the "Mandela Washington Fellowship 2017 of the Young African Leaders Initiative, I wish you HAPPY MANDELA DAY 2017.
May more African leaders receive the guts to stand up for the greater good like Mandela and not for individuals interests.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE FOR PEACE

The attacks in the Far North Region of Cameroon by terrorist group - Boko Haram appeared to be the most visible aspects of radicalization in Cameroon but recent happenings and uprising in the North west and South West regions of Cameroon have proven that there exist other aspects of radicalization and violence in Cameroon whose results can be more devastating if proper action is not taken. With youths 10 – 14 taking to the streets and burning properties and with schools currently not going on besides internet shut downs by the government, there is an urgent need to guard against further radicalization of young people and to engage families and communities in identifying/preventing radicalization processes and violent extremism, while engaging youth in economic empowerment programs that will enhance income generation, improved livelihoods and prevention of further radicalization and violence. This initiative seeks to guard against extremism and radicalization on the rise in Cameroon, lack of dialogue and mutual understanding and consequent decrease in civic participation by: engaging/training of 100 families (parents) and traditional/religious rulers on peacebuilding, conflict resolution and identification/prevention of radicalization processes; establishing a youth empowerment center/training 50 youths on sustainable agriculture best practices and other income generating activities for alternative livelihoods, and running of community radio programs that will promote the spread of counter narratives and address youth/civic leadership and promote dialogue/peace/tolerance.
